Flag

I made a recording of just a flag flapping in the wind and the people that walked by. I just sat down on the curb around it and set my mics and recorder down nest to me. You can still hear the lake a bit since I was still pretty close to it. The most prominent sounds are the cars driving by though.

Beach Bugs

I went exploring by the beach and decided to take a recording on a path that was surrounded by bushes and other plant life. I was hoping to get a good recording of various bugs and things like that on the recording. You can also hear birds in the background as well as the lake, which I was by.

Beach Conversation

I was by a beach taking a recording of the activity around me when two gentalmen started having a conversation near me. The men were speaking in a language I didn't know, but it sounded arabic. While they were talking a woman walked up the wooded plank stairs next to me, this is very noticable in the recording.

Stop Sign

For this recording I tried to record in a different way. I held one microphone in each hand and held them inbetween the two signs, one mic on each side of the pole. The effect creates a very different sound for each side. You can hear a lawnmower and a power saw of some sort in the left speaker, but you bearly hear it in the right speaker. I must say though, you get some interesting looks when you are standing with your hands inside a stop sign for no obvious reason.

Hedge Man

Walking along Hartford Ave. I came across a lawn with a sprinkler that I decided to take a recording of. Not too far from where I was recording a man was hedging his bushes which is the most obvious noise on the recording. Also, while I was making the recording a dragonfly flew past my microphone so be sure to keep an ear out for that.

Drift Strategy

My drift strategy turned out to be not nearly as good of an idea as I had hoped. In my time here in Milwaukee I have explored a lot to the west and south, so I decided that my goal would be to walk as far east as possible. Unfortunately, not having consulted a map I didn’t realize that you could only go east about 5 or 6 blocks before you hit the lake. Refusing to give up so soon, I went north then until I found a way to go farther east. I eventually ran into a beach where I took numerous recordings. I started to make my way back at that point the block that I started on.

Drift Map

Here is a map I made using Google Maps to show the course of my drift.
